Prof. dr. Wouter H. Roos (male) obtained his training in Physics at the Universities of Amsterdam, Dublin and Heidelberg, where at the latter he received his PhD degree in 2004. After post-doc periods at the Max-Planck-Institut für Metallforschung in Stuttgart and the Vrije Universiteit in Amsterdam he became group leader at the latter. In 2015 he moved to Groningen University to accept the chair in Molecular Biophysics. His research interests include the physics of viruses, vesicles, cells and the cytoskeleton. He obtained a prestigious VIDI grant of the Dutch government in 2013. Next to his research and educational responsibilities, Roos has organised several conferences, is part of the steering committee of the European Molecular Biophysics Network ARBRE and management committee member and Workgroup leader of a COST-Action (CA15126). Roos will lead the stiffness characterization measurements using AFM. The research in the Roos lab is for 50% focused on mechanical characterization of viral particles, fitting perfectly within the scope of the current project.
